Treyace Yellow Owl

Member of the Amskapipiikaani nation and Blackfoot language/culture teacher.

Treyace Yellow Owl (Aakaikakatosaaki) is an enrolled member of the Amskapipiikaani nation
and a Blackfoot language/culture teacher. She is currently pursuing her Elementary Education
degree at Blackfeet Community College. Treyace graduated from the Cuts Wood immersion
school and is fluent in the Blackfoot language. From a young age she has been an ambassador
for her people traveling near and far representing her people and Blackfeet nation. She
dedicates her life to bringing her ancestors' knowledge back to her people and keeping the
language alive. Ms. Yellow Owl spends her summers as an interpreter for the Glacier National
Park, working for the ‘Native America Speaks’ program and a language teacher for Native
Science Field Centers. Growing up she aspired to follow in her role model Darrel Kipp’s
footsteps to preserve the Blackfoot language and fight against the effects of colonization within
her community. Her goals are to break the chains of historical trauma and help her people
overcome post-colonization. She hopes to inspire young Native people to strengthen their
people and communities by learning their language and culture.
