Anne Shon

Ph.D. World language teacher, Music performer and Executive Director of Korean School of Columbia

Anne Shon was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Paris, France when she was seven. Growing up with two different cultures, she got the opportunity to embrace the two cultures to shape her identity. Her curiosity about the relationship between music and culture in different countries of the world led her to a music degree in Paris Music Conservatory (Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris) and to her Ph.D degree in ethnomusicology at Sorbonne University in Paris, France.

Benefiting from being a musician and a trilingual French - Korean - English, she had numerous professional opportunities to serve in France, Korea and the USA. She taught music in Conservatories in Paris, was a performer and worked as a teaching assistant in International Music Academies. She also had the honor to serve as the interpreter at two official presidential meetings (for the former president of Congo, Mr. Omar Bongo during his visit to South Korea and for the former president of South Korea Mr. Roh Moo-Hyun during his visit to France). With her personal, educational and professional experiences, she is willing to serve as a multicultural spokesperson among American students helping them broaden their perspectives, explore and create their own global pathway while bringing them real-world experiences. She is now a high school French teacher in Lexington, SC since 2017, and the director of the Korean School of Columbia SC.
