Andrew S. Ergas

CEO, Hebrew at the Center

Bringing over twenty-five years of involvement in education and leadership, Rabbi Andrew Ergas is CEO of Hebrew at the Center, an agency dedicated to revolutionizing the teaching and learning of Hebrew. He has served as director of a JCC, JCP Downtown, ARZA, and the URJ Youth Division, as well as residential camp director and head of school. A frequent lecturer and trainer, Ergas also worked as an organizational management consultant. Andrew was ordained in Jerusalem by HUC-JIR and holds master’s degrees in nonprofit management and Hebrew literature. A graduate of Harvard’s Principals program, he is a doctoral candidate in education at JTS, with a research focus on Hebrew, identity and pedagogy. Rabbi Ergas is active in his congregation and served for three years as Board Chair of the Council on Hebrew Language and Culture in North America. He enjoys playing guitar, great movies, and spending time outdoors. Andrew lives in Brooklyn with his wife Jennifer and has three young adult sons.

Join high school students as they reflect on language learning, their motivations, challenges and opportunities, and why they care about Hebrew. Fun, informal, and primarily in this second language, this round table will provide a great opportunity for these students to share their important perspectives.
