Third Year International Studies Student at the University of Florida

Born and raised in an English-speaking household on the South Side of Chicago, I was both curious and fascinated with the idea of learning another language at the age of 13. Fast-forward to present day... I never expected to find myself living in the Dominican Republic volunteering at an education NGO, strictly speaking Spanish. 7 years of language courses, 6 years of traveling to Spanish-speaking countries, 7 years of discovering a new me. All because of a foreign language. I am a third year International Studies major with a minor in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance and a Certificate in Spanish in the Professions at the University of Florida. I will continue to strengthen my proficiency in Spanish and start learning Portuguese in order to internationalize my career in Development Economics and have the opportunity to research and work throughout Latin America.

Journey to Becoming Global Citizens

Throughout my years of traveling, I have had the fortunate opportunity to befriend extraordinary individuals that inspire me every day. I would like to use this Round Table Discussion as a space to offer unique accounts of how beneficial and impactful foreign languages are throughout different areas of our lives: personal, professional, etc.
