Ichishkíin Learner-Speaker-Teacher-Linguist
Keegan Livermore (Walímx̱ux̱ux̱, he/him/pɨnmínk) is a descendant of the Yakama Nation and a Master's Student in the Language Teaching Studies program at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He is learning the Yakima dialect of Ichishkíin (Sahaptin). After growing up away from the Yakama Reservation in Portland, OR, and going to college in California, he moved to Toppenish, WA, to start learning the language and reconnecting with his Sohappy family and Yakama tribal community while studying at Heritage University. He has been working to learn Ichishkíin, develop educational curricula and materials, and create language keyboards using the Keyman program. Ikw’aɬanúusha sapsikw’aɬámaman, he is grateful to his teachers, mentors, and elders.
