Alma Puente Ruiz
LMSW District Social Worker, ESOL Advocate, McKinney-Vento Liaison, Lexington County School District One
Alma graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1998 with her undergraduate
BA in Psychology and in 1991 with her Master’s degree in Social work, and shortly after earned
her license in Social Work. Her experience includes working in the Department of Mental Health
in psychiatric hospitals and the Department of Health and Environmental Control in several
programs. She has 15 years of School Social Work experience, and she has acted as an advocate
for the Hispanic Community, minority populations, and families facing crises. Aside from her
regular duties as a social worker, she has very actively supported the international teachers with
multiple needs. To maintain the current generation’s education about Alma’s populations of
interest she continuously mentors upcoming students, many of which are in a university social
work program, to further spread knowledge about diversity and advocacy for minority
populations.
