Norah Lulich Jones
Owner Fluency Consulting LLC
Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) Founder's Award
I’m a lover of languages and cultures for their joy and their power to give identity and hope to individuals and communities. In living out that passion, I’ve been privileged to teach multiple languages (Spanish, French, Russian, ESL, and Latin) in public and private middle and high schools in the United States, and to write and work for multiple world language publishing companies. As owner of Fluency Consulting LLC, I consult for publishers, supervise and train teachers, participate on boards of state, regional, and national world language organizations and non-profits, and provide sessions, workshops, and keynotes at conferences and for educational institutions K-adult. I’ve been honored to receive awards that focus on service to others (SCOLT’s Founder’s Award and FLAVA’s Distinguished Service Award). I’m Croatian by heritage, and now live on a large farm in Virginia, USA, while I connect to my wider family around the world.

Level Up with Game-changer Language Insights
Level up your language! We’ll start by stepping back for key and fascinating perspectives on how human language works for individuals and groups. Then you’ll really step forward into increased skill, confidence, and enjoyment of your new language(s). Explore the powerful impact of four truths of how human language actually works for individuals and groups; of three steps to natural, confident communication; and of three language gifts to you as an individual as well as to you (and others) as members of linguistic and cultural communities. These simple but profound insights will help you to understand how to approach language learning, why you would do so, and will help bring a sense of well-being, control, and fun to last a lifetime.

Life After Death (from Language Embarrassment)
Maybe a bit afraid of making mistakes? Concerned you’ll embarrass yourself culturally? Well, you WILL! You SHOULD! It turns out that not only will you live through the embarrassment, it will turn into your life-long center of courage and breakthroughs. Since there’s nothing like swapping stories of incredibly embarrassing mistakes we make in language and cultural norms when we are learners (and we are life-long learners), I’m sharing some here. Laugh at me, feel a whole lot better about yourself, and then get out there in class and in the world -- go make your own embarrassing moments. You’ll not only survive, they’ll make you a powerful (and compassionate) multi-lingual and multi-cultural person.
