Binnie Swislow
Director of Hebrew at the Public Schools Network
Binnie’s passion for Hebrew began when she moved to Israel with her family with only knowing a handful of words. None of which could buy a loaf of bread at the corner kiosk! However being immersed in the language with new friends brought fluency within the school year. Binnie received a BS in Bilingual Education and Linguistics. She returned to University of Wisconsin to attain a Masters Degree in School Administration and Leadership. Binnie taught English in Israel and Hebrew in America and Canada.Writing the curriculum and starting Hebrew at Adlai Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois was a sweet accomplishment. Binnie became the Director of The Kohl Children’s Museum’s Jewish Teacher Center and loved traveling to present professional development workshops across America. She is one of the founders of The Hebrew Council and The National Association for Hebrew Teachers. Binnie brings her love of Israel and the Hebrew language to The iCenter. She works with the teachers to implement The Hebrew STAMP Assessment Tool, continues to offer professional development workshops that target Hebrew as a World Language as well as consulting for other areas of The iCenter work. Her enthusiasm for her students’ Language accomplishments is tangible. She is happy with her profession.
