Test Overview
Approximately 3 hours
Section I: Writing – series of short essay questions, approximately 1.5 hours
Section II: Free-Response Section, 4 prompts, 80 minutes, 50% score (each prompt is 12.5%)
Presentational Writing – Short answer on core themes
Interpersonal Speaking –interactive conversation with teacher
Presentational Writing – Cultural understanding of literary text
Presentational Speaking – presentation and discussion with teacher
Aligned to the ACTFL Proficiency Scale
ACTFL Intermediate-Mid = IB Score of 4
ACTFL Advanced-Low = IB Score of 6

IB exams are commonly used for college credit and/or placement. Many international schools offer IB programs.

How is it rated?
Exams are rated on a scale of 1 to 7. Speaking test are all internally teacher-scored (but moderated by IB) and Written test is externally scored.

Given at schools affiliated with IB programs. All Exams are given in May (or November for some languages).
