Y-C.R.E.D. 2023 Target Language Classroom Video
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is offering an opportunity for teachers and their classrooms to participate in the Y-C.R.E.D. 2023 Target Language Classroom Video project. The initiative aims to provide engaging authentic language input to students learning different languages. Past Global Y-C.R.E.D. events have included thousands of student participants from over 50 countries. Click here to see a sample video.
Upload your video by October 6, 2023 to qualify for inclusion in Y-C.R.E.D. 2023 content by clicking here. Videos that best meet the criteria above will be included in this year’s Y-C.R.E.D. event. If your classroom video is selected for inclusion in our global event we will send you a content release form to complete.
Here's how it works:
1. Ask your students to prepare a video (5-15 min) about their culture. The video has to be prepared in their FIRST LANGUAGE or MOTHER TONGUE, not in the language your students are learning. Our goal is to provide students learning your language with authentic target language input on a topic that will interest and engage primary and/or secondary students. Topics could include: places of interest, holidays, traditions, popular food, music or sports, etc.
2. The video must be saved as an mp4 file.
3. We invite you to include at the end of your video an optional link with additional information about the topic that other students may find useful. This could include links to “deeper dives”, a glossary with keywords, a written transcript (not a translation), or something your students create to add to the experience.
4. If you wish, create or share an optional activity (downloadable or interactive) to assist the target-language teacher creating a lesson plan around your video.
5. Be sure that all voices can be heard in your video. Consider adding closed captioning when recording your video so learners of your language can have supplemental text.
6. When recording students, please respect all student data, security, and privacy guidelines for your institution. For example, you may choose not to use student names, or have them do voiceovers off camera. Global Y-C.R.E.D. does require a Publicity Release Form for each video so that we have permission to share it on our platform.
7. Complete this form letting us know that your students will participate. You will be asked to provide a TITLE and DESCRIPTION of your video (in English and in the language of the presentation). Include your name, email, and photo, the name of your school and principal, your city and country. If the video was created by multiple students or an entire class, you can indicate “Class of -your name-“ and, if you choose, provide us with a class photo. If GDPR does not allow using student names and images, you are not required to give them.
