2014 ACTFL Teacher of the Year, Global Seal of Biliteracy Executive Director
Linda Egnatz (NBCT) is the Global Seal of Biliteracy Executive Director and JNCL-NCLIS President-Elect. She was an Advanced Placement Spanish teacher, and has taught at DePaul University, Purdue and Joliet Junior College. She serves on the Global Teachers Club Advisory Council and is the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Advocacy Chair and Past President. In 2013, she received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and representing Illinois, was named the 2014 ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year. She has long been known for her role as national cheerleader for Seals of Bilteracy, which recognizes language learners for their proficiency in two languages. As the ACTFL 2014 National Language Teacher of the Year, she expanded her advocacy for language learners to support other states working to adopt a State Seal. Her work on the Seal of Biliteracy was featured in Univision and Chicago Tribune interviews and she has published in the Foreign Language Annals, Hispania, The Language Educator, Language Magazine and Education Weekly. In her new Global Seal role, her mission is to provide bilinguals around the world with resources to level-up and leverage their bilingualism and link to future opportunities to use and grow their skills through language certification.
