The goal for the “LEVEL-UP” track is to provide students with motivation as well as specific strategies to improve one or more of their language skills in order to reach a Seal of Biliteracy goal, or to level-up from one Global Seal certificate level to another.

Learning a language + Playing a video game: A good combination

A ten-minute video introducing learners to how to use multiplayer video games of their choice to improve the skills in a target language, featuring a large number of video clips from actual gameplay.

There are subtle conversation rules (called “pragmatics”) that humans follow. These pragmatics transform speaking with others from feeling like a classroom interrogation into a true and interesting human conversation. AP Spanish Language and Culture Course Exam and Description

This session provides an overview of AP Spanish Language and Culture course and exam design. Participants will learn more about the content of the course and exam as well as free instructional resources available for students.

Introduction to AP Chinese Exam

This video starts with a brief introduction of the Advanced Placement programs. It gives an overview of AP Chinese and focuses the exam: skills tested, question type, number of items, time limits, example Free Response Questions, etc. Online resources are also provided for more detailed information.

The Science of Leveling Up: Best hacks to expand you vocabulary

Words matter a great deal. Having a large vocabulary is essential to being able to understand the written and spoken word, and reading and listening, of course, are essential for language learning But just how many and what kinds of words do foreign language learners need to know to function in another language? And what are some strategies for learning those words as efficiently as possible? These are the main questions that I address in this presentation. Learn the basics of vocabulary acquisition and apply a number of simple, but effective, tools to grow your vocabulary and have fun in the process.

Our “LINK” track is all about the future. Students can learn about ways to use and grow their language skills while gaining experience through study abroad, internships, volunteer and work experiences.

English is widely considered the standard for communication in the United States and across the globe, and it can be difficult for multilingual students to see the value in using and retaining their heritage language. Using my experiences as a teacher and interpreter, I will show students how they can leverage their language capital to further expand career opportunities and boost their income.

Leverage Sessions

Sessions in the “LEVERAGE” track provide students with inspiration and insight on how to leverage their language skills and their Seal of Biliteracy.

Highlight your Language Skills on the Common App

Leverage your language skills to earn university advantages. This session will take you step-by-step through the Common App and share five different ways to highlight your language skills and/or Seal of Biliteracy and distinguish yourself as a bilingual. Students have earned college credit, advanced placement, and scholarships by highlighting their language skills, and you can do the same.

Play the Global Game. How do you rank in CEFR?

This session will show you in what ways playing a game and learning a language are similar. You will also learn about the CEFR scale and understand why it's important to know it.

 

The Global Seal Program Manager shares how your Global Seal will serve you beyond your school years and how to get the most out of these benefits!

Learn how to submit as an individual test taker from the Global Seal employee who will verify your scores and mail your certificate!
