About the Global Seal of Biliteracy
WHO WE ARE
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an independent organization that was born in 2018 as a response to the need for a universal and consistent way to document, recognize, and share one’s language skills. Through certification, we elevate the value and visibility of multilingualism and empower bilinguals to document, share, and leverage their language skills.
WHAT WE DO
The Global Seal issues a highly rigorous, standardized, and market-friendly language certification. The three-tiered certificate is stackable and digitally-shareable, and can be earned by individuals or awarded by employers, universities, and schools to qualifying candidates. Language certification is available in over 120 languages on both the ACTFL and CEFR language proficiency scales.
WHERE WE ARE
Global Seal of Biliteracy certificates have been issued to bilinguals in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia as well as in 60 countries and territories worldwide.
WHO WE CERTIFY
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is inclusive. It is available to anyone of any age who meets our language level requirements on an approved test regardless of how their language was acquired. Both individual and group certification pathways are available.
HOW WE CERTIFY
To become Global Seal certified, candidates must meet our criteria for both the first/dominant and second language of certification. Qualifying test scores for the second language of certification are submitted to the Global Seal for verification and a personalized, uniquely serial-numbered digitally shareable certificate is issued.
