From the Highlands to the World: Gaelic Is Going Global!

Get ready to be inspired! The fifth annual World Gaelic Week (Seachdain na Gàidhlig) is returning 23 Feb – 1 Mar 2026, and it’s bigger and more international than ever. This celebration of Scottish Gaelic language and culture isn’t just for native speakers — it’s a global movement that brings communities together from Scotland to London, Australia and beyond.

With a theme that hits home — “Use It or Lose It” (Cleachd i no caill i) — this year’s week features a vibrant mix of online gatherings, dance workshops, storytelling, music events and Say a Gaelic Phrase Day, all designed to make language learning fun and inclusive.

Why this matters to educators:

  • It shows how language celebration fosters community, identity and lifelong learning.

  • It’s a powerful reminder that every language is a living culture — not just a subject to study.

  • There are events and resources for learners of all levels, from virtual sessions to local meetups.
