March Activities

For the March activities in the Global Classroom Pair-Share program, select the proficiency level that suits your students. If you're familiar with the ACTFL scale, here are the equivalents: A1 is for Novice Low/Mid, A2 for Novice High/Intermediate Low, B1 for Intermediate Mid/High, and B2 for Advanced Low/Mid. Complete appropriate activities by April 15 and share them in the Global Classroom Pair-Share Facebook group.

A1 Activities

WHAT DO THEY EAT?

Students find information about popular fruit and vegetables in their paired country. Prepare a short dictionary with pictures and names in the language students speak and the language they are learning. Use an app or technology to add sound. To level up for A1+ students add a descriptive sentence to the dictionary.

Resources & Apps:

SCHOOL IS COOL

Teams of students work together to draw their school using an app or online tool (Minecraft, The Sims, Toca Boca, etc). Use the image to present to your paired classroom students. For A1+ students can answer simple questions about their school (e.g. Does it have...? Is there...?)

A2 Activities

WHO'S COOL?

Students identify popular media celebrities in a variety of categories (TV, music, YouTube, sports, movies, TikTok, authors). They create an online magazine to introduce the celebrities in their country to their paired classroom. Students decide who they would like to meet and give a simple reason why and use complete sentences.

Resources & Apps:

AROUND THE CLOCK

Students interview each other to learn about their paired country. Find out if their paired class has homework and if so, how much time they spend doing it. Students can also ask about time spent on leisure activities, and what they are. Prepare a poster showing the results and share it with your paired class. Use an app to display posters and discuss them. For A2+ students try to encourage follow up questions.

B1 Activities

LET'S TRAVEL!

Students, as a class pick a city for a dream trip (4 days). They use the search icon in Google Arts & Culture to see what the city offers. Invite students to use other resources to plan the trip including what to see and do, where to stay, what to eat, how they will move around the city and pick an activity to learn there. Create a presentation that maps the activities to share. Pick one or more to share with the paired classroom. Students viewing the presentations should say/write what they liked and/or did not like about the trip.

Resources & Apps:

THUMBS UP!

Research target language restaurants (e.g. Trip Advisor) and read/watch reviews. Create a podcast (2-3 minutes) about the restaurant and food it serves. Students describe a pretend visit there, and their experience - positive or negative (past tense). Post the podcasts on our GCPS_2024 Padlet. Students watch the podcasts and comment whether or not they would like to eat there and why.

B2 Activities

I GOT A JOB!

Students identify a career they are interested in and find out what is required (how many years of school, specific subjects/courses, internship, training, special clothing, licenses). Is it the same in the target country? Students pretend they are now 30 and prepare a YouTube-like tutorial on how they got their job. Students answer questions about their job. Post the tutorials on our GCPS_2024 Padlet.

STARRING YOU

Students work in groups of 3-4 to prepare a live news broadcast using websites from various news sites. Students will use information on local, regional, and world news from a target language website to produce a news broadcast. Broadcast should include a past event, an upcoming event, weather forecast, sports or entertainment component. Students coedit the script and each group member should present a portion. They post their video to our GCPS_2024 Padlet.
