TestDaF

 
 
 
 

The TestDaF is an advanced-level language exam. It covers levels B2 to C1 on the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The certificate issued upon successful completion of all four sections of the TestDaF exam at TestDaF level 4 will act as evidence of the language skills needed to gain admission to almost any subject and degree course at universities and institutions of higher education in Germany. The TestDaF language exam also provides internationally recognized evidence that your knowledge of German is sufficient to complete scientific projects and enter academic professions.

 

Exam Overview:

There are four sections to complete for the TestDaF:

 

Reading Comprehension:

3 reading texts:

  • Short texts

  • Journalistic text

  • Text from trade journal

30 items:

  • 10 assignment items

  • 10 multiple choice items

  • 10 items yes / no / text says nothing about it

    Time: 60 minutes

Listening comprehension:

3 audio texts:

  • dialog

  • interview

  • Lecture / interview

25 items:

  • 8 short answers

  • 10 items right / wrong

  • 7 short answers

    Time: 40 minutes

 

Writing:

1 task:

Write a structured text with a graphic description and argumentation.

Time: 60 minutes

 

Oral Expression

7 tasks:

Speak in various university-typical situations.

Time: 35 minutes

 

Aligned to the CEFR Proficiency Guidelines

Working Fluency: Receive a passing score on the B2 test.
Professional Fluency: Receive a passing score on the C1 test.

Nationally & Internationally Recognized

Internationally recognized anywhere a B2 or C1 CEFR score is accepted.

Accepted by the Global Seal of Biliteracy

Yes

Working Fluency: This level credentials language learners at the B2 level.

Requires Proctor
